This very nice bedroom set was presented by the Parisian Department Store Le Petit Saint-Thomas in its Etrenne catalog at the end of 1892. Parisian Department Stores published such toys catalogs at the end of each year because it was the tradition to offer toys to children the first of January. These gifts were called Etrennes in France.
This set is composed of a bed with blue silk canopy, a night table with opening door, a chest of two opening drawers, two chairs and two curved armchairs with matching blue silk upholstery. It is made in honey wood and is enhanced with gilt paper trims and a profusion of floral stencils with very nice flowers.
The bed is 5 1/2"(14 cm) wide and 8 7/8"(22.4 cm) high. The chest of drawers is 4 3/8"(11 cm) wide and 3 3/8"(8.6 cm) high. The night table is 2 1/4"(5.7 cm) wide and 4 3/8"(11 cm) high. The chairs are 3 5/8"(9.3 cm) high.
Very good to excellent condition.
German for the French market. Circa 1892.
